TALES of TRYON presents: FLYNN AND BRADY: ARCHITECTURAL VISIONARIES with speaker Shields Flynn
Doors open at 4 pm for mingling as no refreshments will be served. Lecture begins at 5 pm.
”In keeping with the ‘Tales of Tryon’ theme, this talk will focus on two people, my brother, Ligon Flynn, and brother-in-law Holland Brady, Jr., following on earlier presentations about Tryon architecture made by Dean Trakas, but with a focus on the architecture of Ligon and Holland in Tryon and North Carolina.
I will cover their early life in Tryon, including their education, and building successful architectural firms. Their designs during the Mid-Century Modern Architectural period illustrate many aspects of this era, and will be reflected with pictures of a selection of their houses.
Additionally the talk will cover the importance of how a new School of Design at NC State established in 1947/48, that Ligon attended, led to North Carolina becoming one of the leading States in the construction of mid-century modern houses, and how the website, ncmodernist.org was established to document and support the works of NC architects.”
